Composition Shingles

Asphalt composition shingle roofs in a wide range of colors and styles, installed for mountain and valley weather.

Composition Shingles

Composition shingles, often called asphalt shingles, are the most common residential roof in California. They offer a wide choice of colors and styles at a moderate price, and a well-installed roof protects your home for decades. We install composition shingle roofs for homes and cabins in Trinity and Shasta counties.

Choosing a shingle

  • Architectural (dimensional) shingles are thicker, have a layered look and are the standard choice for most homes today.
  • Color matters for looks and for heat. Lighter colors reflect more summer sun, darker colors suit mountain homes among the pines.
  • Warranty and wind rating differ between product lines. We will walk you through the options.

The color chart above shows one manufacturer's range. Ask us for samples so you can see them on your own roof line.

How we install them

  • Remove the old roofing and inspect the decking
  • Repair damaged boards and install the underlayment and flashing
  • Check attic ventilation, which has a big effect on how long a roof lasts
  • Install the shingles to the manufacturer's instructions
  • Clean up, including a sweep for stray nails

Frequently asked questions

How long do composition shingles last?

Typically about 20 to 30 years, depending on the product, the roof's ventilation and the climate. Heat, sun and heavy snow all wear on a roof, so a roof in the Redding valley ages differently from one near Weaverville.

Are composition shingles fire resistant?

Many composition shingle products carry a Class A fire rating. Whether a particular roof assembly qualifies depends on the product and how it is installed, so we confirm it for your address.

Composition or metal?

Composition costs less up front and has the widest range of colors. Metal lasts longer and sheds snow well. Our metal vs. composition guide compares them for mountain homes.

Is the estimate really free?

Is the work under warranty?

Yes. Our installation is covered by a 4-year workmanship warranty. Manufacturer warranties on the materials vary by product.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, through the Joist app. Ask us for the link when you request your estimate.
